In my practice as a dental hygienist, I affirm my personal and professional commitment to improve the oral health of the public, to advance the art and science of dental hygiene, and to promote high standards of quality care. I pledge continually to improve my professional knowledge and skills, to render a full measure of service to each patient entrusted to my care, and to uphold the highest
standards of professional competence and personal conduct in the interest of the dental hygiene profession and the public it serves.

Our new service project for 2012 is supporting Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine (SCVIM), a new medical and dental clinic in Palm Bay to serve the uninsured of Brevard County.  http://www.spacecoastvolunteersinmedicine.org/

They are in need of many different things, especially RDHs available to volunteer some time in the clinic.  We will be collecting the following items at every meeting so please scour your offices and ask your colleagues to donate these items:



Cavicide wipes
Cavitron Unit with inserts
Adult Toothbrushes
Floss - Patient samples
Go Betweens/ Prox-a-brushes
End Tuft Brushes
Rubber Tip Stimulators
Floss Threaders
3-M Sealant material and Etch
Dry Angles - All sizes
Disclosing Agent/ Tablets or Liquids
Gloves: Small & Med - Non latex

All meetings are held at the Central Brevard Library, 308 Forrest Avenue in Cocoa unless otherwise noted.  Due to state regulation, if you arrive after the CEU begins or leave before it ends, you will not receive your CEU.  BCDHA registers with CE Broker.

We are collecting items to donate to the Brevard Women's Center.  Please see the Calendar page for a list of requested items.

Local Annesthesia Bill Update - Local annesthesia has passed in Florida
Great news, our local anesthesia bill has finally passed.  SB1040 is sponsored by Senator Bogdanoff.  You can track the bill and its results by going to flsenate.gov.  Go to the FDHA web site for more details.  Thanks to all who have worked on getting us to this point.  Show your support by contacting  your local House and Senate representatives. 

May 5th  Hispanic Health Fair in Orlando
Volunteers needed for health screenings and patient education.  Supplies also needed such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, & health information pamphlets. Knowledge of Spanish helpful but not necessary; interpreters on site. Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine
First Anniversary Tour and Thrift Sale
Help Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine celebrate its frist annivesary on April 25. Doors open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 1460 Baytree Dive, Palm Bay. Visitors will receive tours of the clinic, have an opportunity to meet the staff and enjoy free refreshments.On Saturday, May 5th the clinic will be holding a Thrift Sale from 8am to 3pm at 4030 Minton Road in Melbourne. Did you know that licensure requirements can change each biennium?

The biennium's continuing education requirements have changed. You can view the new list of required courses and hours needed by checking out the Florida Department of Dentistry Continuing Education Requirements web page.  Remember that CE Broker will be flagging down health professionals who do not fulfill requirements.  Not sure if your course is recognized but CE Broker? Contact them at https://www.cebroker.com/public/pb_index.asp before the next renewal period expires  in February 2014.
